Let’s Leave Behind Those Outdated Ideas: CPP MP on Removing the Image of Ararat from Stamps
MP Arpi Davoyan from the ‘Civil Contract’ faction of the National Assembly addressed the noise surrounding the new stamps and various criticisms on her Facebook page.
“The image of Ararat has been removed from the border stamp... For years, how did you look at the stamped image of Ararat in your passports while you ventured abroad to obtain citizenship, avoid military service, love Armenia from afar, cry for Ararat from a distance, and teach us how to live correctly? Every time you raise such a fuss, I must quote these words from Kostan Zaryan: ‘Brother, it’s time to understand that if we have fallen into this situation today, the reason is that we have been educated by foolish priests and no less foolish teachers.’ Always the same words: our glorious past, our virtues, our Christianity, Sahak-Mesrop, the invention of the alphabet, the lamp of the Illuminator, the wisdom of our ancestors, the fig trees of our native village, and the yogurt made by grandma... What’s the outcome? The result is evident: our inability to comprehend the terrible events that are tearing us apart, the century that has assaulted us, history that shapes new forms for us that are incomprehensible. Why should I hide it? Our writers are more responsible for this misunderstanding than anyone else.
Tradition, tradition... For the love of the gods, let’s leave behind those outdated, worn-out ideas, let’s put an end to those old, senile words. Look around you; life is racing like a bullet out of a gun, while you talk about tradition…” the MP wrote.
