Why Are We Building Reservoirs Elsewhere? Sukiasyan Made a Proposal to Khudatyan
“There are cases; it happens all over the world when there are dry seasons, reservoirs and such lakes are used for that purpose. When the number of reservoirs increases, the water taken from Lake Sevan will also decrease,” said Khachatur Sukiasyan, a member of the My Step faction, during his speech at the extraordinary session of the National Assembly.
Sukiasyan made a proposal to the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure:
“We have valleys from which rivers flow; there are two walls and they have reliefs, there is a drop. What is the reason we do not want to block, for example, 2-3 meters in many places? We see these valleys in the Shirak plain—the rivers flowing in them are half dried up, half not. Why are we going to build reservoirs elsewhere? Now we can do this very quickly; the water is right there, it does not need to be transported from anywhere else, we just need to build cascades to retain that water, and later, when necessary, it can be used from there with pumps,” Sukiasyan stated. Earlier, the Minister of Territorial Administration had delivered a speech expressing concerns about the preservation of Lake Sevan.
