US Proposal for Seizing Russian Assets
The United States intends to propose to the G7 countries the creation of a legal mechanism for the confiscation of frozen Russian assets, reports Bloomberg agency. The agency notes that the funds could be used to finance Ukraine's defense needs. Sources have revealed that the gradual confiscation idea has been discussed with the European side.
Most of the Russian funds are frozen in Europe at the Belgian Euroclear depository.
The agency also reports that Washington is suggesting that the G7 impose tariffs ranging from 50% to 100% on goods from China and India that purchase Russian energy resources.
Additionally, former US President Donald Trump has stated that he could impose a 'very strong blow' against Russia with sanctions. He remarked that 'patience is running out' with President Vladimir Putin.
