US and India to Resume Trade Negotiations Next Week

India will resume negotiations with the United States next week regarding the signing of a new trade agreement. This is reported by The Economic Times, citing a source in the Indian government. According to the source, Rajesh Agarwal, the head of the Indian delegation, will travel to Washington to continue discussions on issues related to a new deal anticipated to boost bilateral trade and India-US merchandise circulation.

“This will put an end to the hiatus in the negotiation process that began after the imposition of a 50 percent tariff on Indian exports by the US. However, it remains unclear whether the US will offer any relief on tariffs during the negotiations,” said the source to The Economic Times.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed confidence in the success of the upcoming negotiations. “India and the US are close friends. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for revealing the boundless potential of India-US partnership. Our teams are working towards a prompt conclusion of the negotiations,” he wrote on X.
