Unrest Erupts in France Following New Prime Minister's Appointment

Protesters have blocked streets, set fires, and dispersed with tear gas in Paris and other cities across France, aiming to increase pressure on President Emmanuel Macron and attempting to put his new Prime Minister through a hostile initiation, reports the Associated Press.

The Minister of the Interior has announced nearly 200 arrests during the early hours of a planned nationwide demonstration. Despite the protest movement that began online over the summer being unable to execute its self-proclaimed intention to 'shut everything down,' it has sparked widespread unrest in hot spots.

80,000 police officers have been deployed to dismantle barricades and make swift arrests. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau reported that a bus was set on fire in the western city of Rennes, and train services in the southwest of the country were halted due to damage to power lines. He noted that protesters attempted to create an 'atmosphere of rebellion.'

It is worth mentioning that Sébastien Lecornu has been appointed as France's Prime Minister, succeeding François Bayrou, who failed to gain the trust of parliament and resigned.
