The US States EU Must Abandon Russian Energy Sources and Buy American Gas

The EU needs to abandon Russian oil and gas and instead purchase liquefied natural gas, gasoline, and other fossil fuels from the US, stated US Energy Secretary Chris Wright in an interview with Financial Times.

According to Wright, this would be economically beneficial for Europe. The Secretary added that if Europe stops purchasing Russian fuel, it would reduce the financing of Russia's military apparatus, thereby moving closer to ending the war.

In 2024, Russian gas accounted for up to 14% of the EU's fossil fuel imports. At the beginning of the large-scale invasion in February 2022, it made up nearly two-fifths of all supplies.

Brussels aims to nearly eliminate Russian oil and gas by 2028, but Hungary and Slovakia, which depend on Russian gas, are opposed to this plan.
