We Surpassed Armenia: Roberto Martinez

The head coach of the Portugal national team, Roberto Martinez, expressed satisfaction with the 5-0 victory over Armenia in the start of the 2026 World Cup qualification phase. He responded to questions from Portuguese media outlets (RTP, Canal 11, Sport TV).

"It was important to have a good start and control the game. The team's spirit was exemplary, and we controlled the ball. After the goal, the course of the match changed, but we maintained our discipline and aimed to score more goals. This was a comprehensive performance," Martinez stated.

When asked by reporters if it was a perfect start, Martinez replied, "Yes, because it wasn't easy. The players' preparedness, attitude, and work quality were excellent. Now we must recover well, as the match against Hungary is a new challenge."

“In the European Championship, we were missing 20–22 players who were fully grasping the tactics. In the Nations League, we had a broader squad. Managing the workload is important. I am very satisfied; we have a healthy competitive environment,” Martinez added.
