There Will Be No So-Called ‘Transit Corridor’ Through Armenia, Says Ambassador
The Iranian Ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhanian, has commented on the so-called ‘transit corridor’ being discussed between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan. In an interview with ISCA News, he emphasized that neither in the document signed in Washington nor in the peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan is there any reference to this so-called ‘corridor’. The discussion is solely about the opening of transportation routes, while the Armenian side maintains complete control over these routes, including passport, customs, and law enforcement systems.
Sobhanian also denied news regarding a '99-year lease', stating that the project is being carried out exclusively within the framework of Armenia's sovereignty. He noted that Tehran insists on five principles, which include respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, judicial jurisdiction, reciprocity, and the inviolability of borders, all of which are fully taken into account.
