Putin Announces Options for Normalizing Relations Between Moscow and Baku
Relations between Russia and Azerbaijan face challenges, but interest in developing these ties will ultimately set everything right. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Due to the current situation or certain political conjunctures, questions always arise in the relations between countries. There are issues, but today I welcomed Aliyev and his wife; we exchanged a few words. However, I believe that the fundamental ties between Azerbaijan and Russia and the mutual interest in their development will ultimately resolve everything,” Putin said during a press conference in China, responding to a question from RIA Novosti.
It is noteworthy that Russian-Azerbaijani relations deteriorated when representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora were arrested in Yekaterinburg, suspected of murders and other illegal activities. On June 30, Azerbaijani authorities arrested seven individuals at Sputnik Azerbaijan, including the agency's head Igor Kartavikhin and chief editor Evgeny Belousov.
