Iran to Continue Talks with the U.S. Based on Its Own Interests: MP

The countries of the "European trio" (Great Britain, Germany, and France) have informed Iran that they are prepared to postpone the restoration of sanctions against Iran by the UN Security Council if the Islamic Republic agrees to begin direct negotiations with the United States. This was stated by the Iranian government spokesperson, Fatemeh Mohajerani, as reported by TASS.

“The condition set by the Europeans for direct negotiations between Iran and the U.S. to extend the Snapback moratorium is quite strange. Today, three European countries have a condition that we consider illegal. They want us to negotiate directly with the country that itself has withdrawn from the agreement,” she said during a press briefing.

As Mohajerani noted, Iran will make a decision regarding the continuation of talks with the United States based on its own interests, while the European countries, in her opinion, are increasingly neglecting their own welfare and prefer to shift their problems onto others.

It is worth noting that five rounds of Iran-U.S. nuclear negotiations concluded without result, while representatives of the "European trio" engaged in talks with Tehran but failed to play a mediating role in the conclusion of a new agreement regarding Iran's nuclear program.
