EU to Send Peacekeepers to Ukraine from Neutral Countries

During an informal meeting in Copenhagen, EU foreign and defense ministers will discuss the possibility of sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine from neutral countries that are not part of the EU or NATO. These forces could potentially patrol the future border and a demilitarized zone, Politico reports, citing diplomats.

The publication notes that the issue of "security guarantees for Ukraine" will be discussed behind closed doors during the meeting. Specifically, questions may arise regarding which neutral country can send peacekeepers for future patrols in the demilitarized zone. However, it is emphasized that the ministers will not make any practical decisions, as the meeting will be informal.

Among the attendees at the ministerial meeting scheduled for August 29-30 is David McAllister, the head of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, who has stated that he will urge ministers to increase pressure on Russia despite diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict and to avoid easing sanctions, instead working towards the implementation of new sanctions.
