EU to Discuss Sending Peacekeepers from Neutral Country to Ukraine

EU foreign affairs and defense ministers will discuss the possibility of sending peacekeeping forces from a neutral country that is not part of the EU or NATO to Ukraine during an informal meeting in Copenhagen, reports Politico, citing diplomats.

The publication notes that the theme of "security guarantees for Ukraine" will be discussed behind the scenes of the meeting. Specifically, questions may arise regarding which neutral country could send peacekeepers for future patrols in a demilitarized zone.

At the same time, the ministers will not make any practical decisions, as the meeting will be informal.

According to the newspaper, David McAllister, the head of the European Parliament's foreign affairs committee, stated that he would urge ministers to only increase pressure on Russia despite diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict and to prevent easing sanctions, and instead work on the implementation of new sanctions.

Additionally, during the same meeting, the European Commission will discuss a draft of the 19th package of sanctions against Russia with the ministers.
