Attempt to Smuggle Drugs into Armenia via Agarak Border Crossing

The Armenian police’s Department of Combating Drug Trafficking had received information that a citizen of Armenia was planning to illegally import drugs into the Republic of Armenia. This information was forwarded to the Customs Committee's Anti-Smuggling Department's operational intelligence unit.

As a result of undertaken operational and investigative measures, it was established that the citizen might import drugs into the Republic of Armenia through the Agarak border crossing. The individual was placed under surveillance.

Customs officers subjected the luggage belonging to G. T. to customs inspection. Inside a polyethylene bag, two pillows were found, each containing a transparent polyethylene package filled with a white crystalline substance resembling the drug methamphetamine, weighing a total of 510 grams.

Based on the direct presence of reasonable suspicion of drug smuggling, the citizen was arrested and presented to the Investigative Committee of the Syunik region of Armenia, where a criminal case was initiated.
