Russian Foreign Ministry Comments on ‘E3’ Threats to Iran

The Russian Foreign Ministry has commented on the threat posed by three European countries involved in the Iranian deal, which is to reinstate tough UN Security Council sanctions against Iran that were in place before 2015 unless Tehran makes significant concessions on its nuclear program by August 31.

The threat to activate the mechanism for reinstating the previously lifted UN sanctions against Iran by Great Britain, Germany, and France is seen as a serious destabilizing factor, according to a statement from the Ministry's Information and Press Department.

While the Europeans advocate for diplomacy and negotiations, their actions detract from such prospects and raise doubts about their genuine interest in resolving the issues they have raised.

“It is necessary to return to diplomacy and, based on that, agree on possible ways to eliminate any doubts and biases regarding Iran’s peaceful atomic program under international law while duly considering the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including its right to enrich uranium for civilian needs under international supervision. All efforts should now focus on this,” the ministry emphasized.
