Orbán Rejects Trump
The Prime Minister of Hungary has not changed his stance on Ukraine, including his belief that it is impossible for the country to join the European Union, even after a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump. The Magyar Nemzet newspaper considers Orbán's statement made after the online EU summit as confirmation of this position.
The head of the Hungarian government stated that tying Ukraine's desire to join the EU to the security guarantees provided by the West is inappropriate, emphasizing that doing so is "pointless and dangerous." In turn, the state secretary for international communications in the Prime Minister's office, Zoltan Kovacs, wrote on social media: "Ukraine's accession to the EU will not be a security guarantee for Kyiv but a promise of conflict for us."
