Tehran Awaits New Guarantees and Explanations from Yerevan: Suren Surenyants
Ten days after the signing of the Washington Declaration, the President of Iran is in Yerevan. Masoud Pezeshkian, who is visiting Armenia for the first time since taking office, will have key meetings today. This was reported by Suren Surenyants, the head of the Democratic Alternative party.
“On his way to Yerevan, he has already made a statement expressing his country’s concerns. According to Pezeshkian, there is undoubtedly unease and worry regarding the presence of American companies in the region that come under the guise of business and seek other objectives. So far, experience has shown that they enter this way, and we will have discussions with Armenian officials regarding these concerns,” he stated.
“This formulation highlights three important points: Iran continues to regard the American presence with suspicion and does not accept it solely as economic; Yerevan's current explanations have not satisfied Tehran; otherwise, there would be no emphasis on the need for discussions; and the reference to past experiences indicates deep-seated distrust. Thus, official Tehran is awaiting new guarantees and explanations from Yerevan regarding the nature of the American presence,” Surenyants wrote.
