Iranians Will Not Allow Concessions on National Security Issues, Velayati

Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to the Iranian leader on international affairs, posted on social media: "The proud history of the powerful and ancient Iranian nation shows that this people will never allow any concessions on its national security issues."

Last week, Velayati met and held talks with Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan. During the meeting, Velayati emphasized that Iran cannot tolerate any actions directed against its security.

At the beginning of the meeting, Kostanyan provided an explanation and report on the latest developments in the region and the negotiations held in Washington, highlighting the necessity to maintain the historical and friendly relations between the two countries.

He also stated, "We are deeply committed to friendly relations with Iran and value those historical ties." In turn, Velayati welcomed the expansion of bilateral cooperation, adding, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always desired long-lasting peace and security among its neighbors and, more than any other country, it emphasizes the establishment of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the independence of the regional countries, Iran was the first country to take steps towards establishing peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and during my tenure at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I made my utmost efforts in this direction."

He highlighted the principles of the Islamic Republic of Iran's foreign policy, emphasizing that the fate of the region should be determined only by the countries of the region.
