It Is Not Excluded That There Are Agreements Between Russia and Washington Regarding the 'Trump Route': Suren Surenyants

The statement by Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk surprised many; they were expecting a sharp rejection, but instead this formulation was heard: 'If it is good for Armenia, we support it.' This was written by political scientist Suren Surenyants.

'What does this mean? There are several possible reasons. In the context of the Ukrainian war, Moscow is avoiding opening a new front with the United States. The Kremlin does not believe in the real prospects of the 'Trump Route' and considers a strong reaction pointless. It is not excluded that there are certain agreements on this issue with Washington.'

'At the same time, the risks are also apparent: the increase of Western influence in the Caucasus, Armenia's gradual distancing from the Russian orbit, as well as the strengthening of Turkey's and Azerbaijan's positions. However, there are also opportunities: Moscow could get involved in economic components, maintain a negotiating card, and present itself as a peacemaker.'

'As a result, with such a stance, Moscow does not suffer significant losses at this moment; if the project fails, it loses nothing, while if it is realized, it will have the opportunity to get involved or at least use it for its own interests,' the political scientist wrote.
