Outcomes of Alaska Summit Will Affect EU's 19th Anti-Russian Sanctions

The results of the Russia-U.S. summit held in Anchorage will influence the discussions on the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions by EU countries. This was reported to TASS by a source from one of the diplomatic missions in Brussels.

“For the approval of each new sanctions package, a compromise is necessary from all EU countries, and the outcomes of the U.S.-Russia summit will undoubtedly affect the disposition of member states,” the source stated, commenting on the declaration by European Commission representative Arianna Podestà regarding the EU's intention to adopt the 19th package of sanctions against Russia as early as September.

The source indicated that the first discussion on the new sanctions package among EU foreign ministers is expected to take place during an informal meeting in Copenhagen on August 29-30.

The diplomat refrained from commenting on the possible content of the new sanctions package but noted that if the European Commission aims to adopt it in just one month, the measures proposed should be “sufficiently uncontroversial” for the EU countries.

It was previously reported that the head of European diplomacy, Kallas, announced the preparation of the 19th package of sanctions against Russia.
