Russia's Almost Absolute Silence Causes Some Confusion, Says Ter-Petrosyan

“The authorities, of course, consider this one of their greatest successes with delight. Meanwhile, the parliamentary opposition, equally naturally, sees nothing positive in the agreement and, on the contrary, warns of its disastrous consequences. For now, I will refrain from responding, as I am convinced that this can only be addressed after the implementation of the agreement,” said the first president of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, in response to a question from Ilur about how he assesses the Armenian-Azerbaijani declaration signed with American mediation regarding Meghri.

He added, “For now, I am somewhat perplexed by the various assessments from friendly Iranian officials (although they might complement each other) and, especially, Russia's almost absolute silence. Iranian diplomacy is so nuanced that sometimes it is difficult to grasp it immediately.”

“However, based on my experience, I can affirm that since the restoration of our country’s independence, Iran has expressed not only no dissatisfaction or reproach towards Armenia, but has responded positively to all our needs. In short, I have seen no misunderstandings in the more than 30-year relations between Armenia and Iran,” he concluded.
