Iran and Iraq Sign Security Cooperation Agreement

Iran and Iraq have signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of security. This was reported by the Mehr news agency.

The document was signed by Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, and Qasim al-Araji, Iraq's National Security Adviser. “We have developed a security agreement with Iraq, which is a very important topic. Iran's viewpoint and approach in relations with its neighbors is based on the fact that the security of Iranians is in focus, but Iran also pays attention to the security of neighboring countries,” Larijani said before traveling to Baghdad.

Lariijani added that he intends to discuss ways to expand cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad with senior Iraqi officials. After Iraq, Larijani will travel to Lebanon.

Mehr recalls that Iran and Iraq signed an agreement in 2023 to coordinate measures to secure the border between the two countries.
