White House Considers Inviting Zelensky to Alaska

The White House is discussing the possibility of inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Alaska, where U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week. This was reported by NBC News.

A senior U.S. official and individuals familiar with the discussions indicated that no visit has been finalized yet, and it remains unclear whether Zelensky will ultimately be in Alaska for the meetings. A senior administration official suggested that it is a possibility.

When asked whether the U.S. has officially invited Zelensky to Alaska, a high-ranking White House official responded: “The president is open to a trilateral summit with the two leaders. At this point, the White House is focusing on planning the bilateral meeting requested by President Putin.”

The Ukrainian government has not responded to requests for comment.

Trump announced on Friday that he will meet with Putin in Alaska on August 15 to discuss achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine. Initially, the White House had set the meeting between Putin and Zelensky as a condition for the meeting between Trump and the Russian president, but Trump later stated that it was not a prerequisite.

If Zelensky travels to Alaska, it is unclear whether he and Putin will ever be in the same room, according to one individual familiar with the discussions.
