Merz Responds to Upcoming Trump and Putin Meeting
The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, hopes that progress will be made in the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine during the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump on August 15 in Alaska.
He reminded that the conflict in Ukraine has been ongoing for three and a half years. “It is time to put an end to this,” emphasized the German Chancellor.
He expressed hope that a decision regarding a ceasefire could be reached during the meeting. “This has long been awaited. This is a diplomatic initiative. We are constantly urged not only to supply weapons but also to present diplomatic initiatives,” said Merz.
“Europeans do not want and should not be bystanders when it comes to the most critical strategic issue for the future of Europe. And that is why we hope for this. We are working on it,” he continued.
