EU Countries Have Violated Core Provisions by Supporting Israel, Says Iranian Foreign Minister
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, members of the UN Security Council, and EU foreign affairs minister Kaja Kallas, presenting arguments for the impossibility of extending sanctions against the Islamic Republic in light of the UNSC's position, TASS reports.
"The three EU countries have abandoned the core provisions and their obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by supporting strikes on the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities by Israel and the USA," Araqchi stated.
The Iranian foreign minister noted that these three EU countries "cannot and should not allow the UN Security Council's authority to be undermined by abusing a resolution to which they are not committed." In his opinion, the three European states should adhere to their expressed position, which implies refraining from "any action that would only exacerbate disagreements in the UN Security Council."
Earlier, the Iranian Tasnim agency, citing sources, reported that Iran has reached an agreement with France, Germany, and the UK to resume negotiations regarding the Islamic Republic's nuclear program.
