Discussion on Implementation of Mass Mobile Internet Shutdown Rules in Russia
Representatives from the Ministry of Business and Digital Technologies of the Russian Federation are currently discussing the implementation of rules for mobile internet shutdowns. This information was reported by the newspaper Izvestia.
As a rule, directives for mobile network shutdowns are issued by local self-government bodies, regional offices of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and other officials and organizations. Due to the increased frequency of drone attacks from Ukraine, such directives have become excessively numerous, and their requirements are sometimes chaotic, noted a source close to one of the mobile operators.
At the moment, operator employees are overloaded with shutdown requests coming from unauthorized local leaders. Regulating the shutdown procedures will help reduce unnecessary and unjustified disruptions for users.
