Armenia Does Not Discuss Delegating Control of Its Sovereign Territory to a Third Party, Says Prime Minister's Spokesperson
Armenia is discussing the unblocking of regional infrastructure solely within the context of the Republic of Armenia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction. Armenia has neither discussed nor is discussing delegating control of any part of its sovereign territory to a third party. This was stated by Nazeli Baghdasaryan, spokesperson for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in response to questions from Armenpress.
Question: The US ambassador in Turkey, while speaking about the unblocking of regional transportation infrastructure, mentioned the possibility of the US leasing a part of Armenia's sovereign territory to implement the 'Zangezur Corridor.' How do you comment on this statement?
Answer: The named proposal is unacceptable for the Republic of Armenia. We have also repeatedly stated that Armenia is discussing the unblocking of regional infrastructure solely within the context of the Republic of Armenia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction. We cannot discuss any other logic.
Regarding land leasing, under Armenian legislation, such an institution exists only for agricultural land, where agricultural activities take place. Therefore, the option mentioned by the US ambassador is not feasible.
Question: Perhaps the US ambassador meant delegating control over the road?
Answer: The Republic of Armenia has not discussed and is not discussing the delegation of control over its sovereign territory to any third party. No part of Armenia’s territory can be outside the realm of the Republic of Armenia's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and jurisdiction.
