Ukrainians Leaving the US Under Accelerated Procedures
Ukrainians relocated to the United States are returning to Europe following changes in the country’s immigration policy during President Donald Trump's administration, Le Monde reports.
According to the newspaper, the exodus of Ukrainians from the US is linked to the suspension of a special program for the admission of Ukrainian citizens that began under Joe Biden's administration. President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed support for tightening immigration policies.
After taking office on January 20, he signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency at the border with Mexico. The US Department of Homeland Security has expanded the powers of US law enforcement agencies, allowing them to deport illegal immigrants through so-called accelerated procedures, meaning without a decision from an immigration court.
