Czech Republic May Halt Military Support for Ukraine
The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, has announced that after the parliamentary elections scheduled for October, the Czech Republic may halt its military support for Ukraine. He made this statement during an interview with the Russian service of the BBC.
In response to a question about relations with Russia, President Pavel emphasized, “Vladimir Putin will not remain in power forever,” and highlighted that the West needs to actively engage with the Russian opposition to “better understand the views and concerns of the Russian people.”
Discussing the Russo-Ukrainian conflict and the prospects for a possible peace agreement, Pavel underscored that “removing Russian troops from occupied territories will be impossible without significant casualties and substantial destruction.” He called on the U.S. to exert more pressure on Russia to achieve peace.
“It is simply impossible to be at war with Russia indefinitely; compromises must be explored,” stated the Czech president, adding, “What alternatives do we have—should we continue fighting Russia? Presumably, such an approach will lead to significant human losses for all of us and will inflict serious damage on our economies.”
