Opposition Mayors Arrested in Turkey
Turkish authorities arrested three mayors from the Republican People's Party (CHP) on Saturday, expanding a wave of legal pressure that began in Istanbul and has lasted for months. This was reported by Reuters.
The mayors of Adana and Adıyaman were arrested on charges of extortion, along with eight other individuals. The mayor of Antalya and the deputy mayor of the Büyükçekmece district in Istanbul were also detained.
These arrests are part of a widespread investigation that began in October 2024, targeting hundreds of CHP members, including 11 mayors.
The CHP denies the allegations, stating that the investigation is politically motivated. However, the Turkish government categorically rejects these claims.
