Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry: Activation of Forces in Armenia is Part of Russia's Scenario

The recent incident in Yekaterinburg, resulting in the death of two Azerbaijanis, is not only a crime but also a clear example of systemic discrimination, Islamophobia, and ethnic violence. This was stated by Azerbaijani MP Fatma Yıldırım.

The MP noted that this tragedy is a blatant attack on our national identity and a targeted crime against Azerbaijanis. “The details of the incident indicate that this crime has a commissioned nature. The tortures, legal violations, and the campaign carried out in the media against our compatriots confirm this. Today, Russia conducts a policy based on chauvinism and intolerance towards non-Russians, particularly Muslims. Against the backdrop of the lack of military resources, false accusations, pressures, and mechanisms of blackmail are used against Azerbaijani migrants. This behavior does not align with the principles of humanity,” the MP stated.

Fatma Yıldırım emphasized that Azerbaijan clearly expresses its position regarding the events taking place. “Because what is happening is not just a legal issue. This is national dignity, state, and civic solidarity. The will of the people and the leader they have chosen stand behind us. President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly stated that every Azerbaijani, regardless of where they live, is under the protection of this state. This is not just a statement but a state guarantee. Our compatriots who lost their lives in Yekaterinburg were also bearers of this protection,” she said.

The MP highlighted that Russia's recent cyberattacks, the ban on the entry of our MPs, the pressures applied to migrants, and the rise of Islamophobic rhetoric indicate concerning trends. “Speeches by figures like Solovyov are manifestations of the Kremlin's hostile policies in the media. Russia is trying to hide its internal crises by searching for an ‘external enemy.’ Unfortunately, the next target of this process could be the South Caucasus. The activation of revanchist forces in Armenia is also part of this scenario. Azerbaijan is a strong state that prevents these attempts and guarantees peace and stability. Today, President Ilham Aliyev is not only the leader of our country but also of all Azerbaijanis in the world. His political determination unites us around national interests. Our state will use all available means to protect the rights of our compatriots,” the MP added.
