You Either Have to Be His Slave or His Enemy: Azerbaijani MP

Russia is trying to impose its foreign policy on neighboring Islamic states using methods such as the brutal attack by the FSB on Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. This was stated by deputy of the Milli Majlis and political scientist Rasim Musabekov. He noted that the Russian law enforcement agencies are actually conducting a policy of intimidation against foreigners.

"The aim is to scare not only the Azerbaijani diaspora but also everyone—Uzbeks, Tajiks, Kyrgyz, Kazakhs, and Turkmen. Russian law enforcement agencies, having unlimited powers, can exert pressure on immigrants. The main goal of these actions is to put pressure on local diasporas, with the aim of sending young people to the Ukrainian front," he said.

The MP added that no one wants to go to war and become a victim of Russia's leadership's chauvinistic policies. For this reason, the Russian Federation employs such pressure methods to impose its foreign policy on neighboring Muslim countries. "I believe that Moscow will achieve nothing. There is a well-known saying: being a neighbor to Russia means you can either be its slave or its enemy. Azerbaijan has long tried to maintain a friendly political relationship with Russia. It feels that this has not been appreciated. There is another way—to keep a distance from Russia and expand that distance as much as possible," the deputy added.

It should be noted that on the morning of June 27, the Federal Security Service of Russia searched the residences of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. During the search, two Azerbaijanis were killed, and several people were arrested. The deceased Azerbaijanis are the brothers of the well-known journalist Seyfeddin Huseynli.
