They Have Completely Lost Their Sanity: Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have completely lost their sanity by making statements that are reminiscent of the days of expansionism in Europe. He made this remark during a press conference following a meeting with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev.

Lavrov commented on the joint article by Macron and Merz, which discusses the necessity of strengthening Europe's defense, with Russia being mentioned as the primary threat. “We listen with amazement and follow the ‘predictions’ that are coming from European capitals. Recently, Macron and Chancellor Merz wrote a joint article: ‘Europe must arm itself, Russia is the main threat, it is conducting imperialist wars. It invaded Georgia in 2008, Crimea and Donbass in 2014, and the entire territory of Ukraine in 2022. Putin's goal is to undermine European security’,” noted the minister.

According to Lavrov, these statements essentially reflect Paris and Berlin's desire to return to historical aspirations of supremacy in Europe, particularly towards Russia. “I believe that only those quotes from someone who understands what is happening in Europe and follows the events are enough to understand that these figures have completely lost their sanity and are genuinely trying to return to the times when France and Germany wanted to conquer all of Europe, primarily the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union,” emphasized Lavrov. This raises concerns, he added. He expressed regret that European capitals are once again being guided by ‘instincts of the past’.
