Red Alert Issued in 17 Cities Across Europe

In certain countries, temperatures have exceeded 40°C, prompting authorities to advise caution, as dry conditions, strong winds, and heat could lead to forest fires. This was reported by Euronews.

Several Italian regions are considering the possibility of banning certain activities during the hottest hours of the day due to the extreme heat. A red alert has been declared in 17 cities, including regions like Lazio, Tuscany, Calabria, Apulia, and Umbria, which are preparing to implement such measures against the backdrop of sharply rising temperatures.

The Italian Ministry of Health has categorized 17 of the 27 monitored cities, including Rome, Milan, and Naples, at the highest thermal alarm level. Regarding the rest of Europe, Spain’s AEMET national meteorological agency has warned that this June could be the hottest on record; temperatures in Seville and other southern cities have reached +42°C.

Health authorities recommend avoiding physical exertion and strictly maintaining hydration, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and young children. Experts link the increasing frequency and intensity of heat waves in Southern Europe to climate change. High temperatures have also been recorded in Greece and Portugal, where both locals and tourists are suffering from the harsh weather conditions.
