Kaja Kallas is in Armenia
The President of the Republic, Vahagn Khachaturyan, has received Kaja Kallas, the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, who is visiting Armenia on an official trip.
Welcoming the guest, the president stated, “The Republic of Armenia today has adopted a path that we can generally call a path of democracy, and in this regard, cooperation with the European Union is very important. I can say that our cooperation has been successful, covering all areas of our life - political, economic, social, parliamentary, and local levels. We also greatly appreciate the support provided by the European Union to Armenia in addressing external political challenges.”
Thanking for the warm reception, Kaja Kallas noted that she is happy to visit Armenia: “We value the close cooperation with Armenia and are interested in establishing lasting peace in your region,” the EU high representative stated.
During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to Armenia-EU multi-layered cooperation. President Khachaturyan presented Armenia's foreign policy priorities and fundamental positions, emphasizing that Armenia steadfastly follows the path of establishing peace in the region and building friendly relations with all neighboring countries.
The reforms implemented in recent years in Armenia, particularly in the areas of justice, combating corruption, and the development and establishment of democratic institutions, as well as the international support received in these directions, were highlighted. Meeting participants emphasized the consistent efforts made by the Armenian authorities towards the establishment of state and political institutions.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on expanding cooperation in the energy sector, particularly in renewable and “green” energy, underlining the importance of promoting Armenia-EU cooperation in this direction and forming new initiatives.
