Iranian Agents Attempted to Assassinate Former US Secretary of State Pompeo
Iranian agents have attempted to assassinate US officials at least three times, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. According to The Washington Post, referencing a book by three journalists titled "2024: How Trump Reclaimed the White House, While Democrats Lost America," these attempts have been ongoing since 2021.
In 2022, Iranian agents identified Pompeo's location in France, and the assassination was ultimately thwarted. Previously, Pompeo had mentioned in his memoir about an attempt by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to hire a hitman for $1 million.
Due to these threats from Iran, security measures around Trump have been heightened, with his Mar-a-Lago residence being secured like a military base. In 2023, both The Washington Post and The New York Times reported that Trump’s team received information about Tehran's plans. The US Department of Justice has confirmed that the assassination plot was successfully prevented.
The Prime Minister of Israel has also addressed the threat of an assassination against Trump. Meanwhile, Iranian President Beztehkyan has denied the accusations, stating, "Iran has never attempted or planned to assassinate anyone."
