Kytrich Nersisyan Should Present His Child or Children Like Grigor Lusavorich, Says Pashinyan

If there is a parallel with Grigor Lusavorich, then Kytrich Nersisyan should present his child or children to the public, because Grigor Lusavorich did not hide his children from the public, as he had a different status before the acceptance of Christianity and the establishment of the Church.

During the Q&A session between the National Assembly and the Government, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made this statement while responding to a remark that Grigor Lusavorich, who was a catholicos, also had a child.

In this context, Pashinyan again recalled the council of Ashtishat in 356 AD, after which the mandatory condition of celibacy was established. He also read excerpts about the vow of celibacy from another book, the “Canon of the Armenians,” and concluded, “This means that, for example, Kytrich Nersisyan not only has no right to be a catholicos, but also has no right to perform any priestly rite, because, in accordance with these rules, due to defilement, fornication, and other sins, he ceases to be a bishop, priest, or catholicos according to the canons and traditions of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

I uphold this tradition with the ‘Canon of the Armenians.’ They are defiling the traditions of our Church that have been passed down for generations.”
