Radioactive and Chemical Contamination Discovered: Grossi

Radioactive and chemical contamination has been detected at the Iranian nuclear facility in Natanz following Israeli strikes. This was reported by Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He made the announcement during a meeting of the United Nations Security Council dedicated to the situation around Iran, which has arisen since Israel initiated military operations against the Islamic Republic.

“However, due to external influences (Israeli strikes), there is radioactive and chemical contamination inside the Natanz facilities,” Grossi stated.

According to the agency's director, the radioactive and chemical contamination at nuclear facilities can be controlled through radiation protection measures.

“These developments are profoundly concerning. I have repeatedly stated that attacks on nuclear facilities should never occur—regardless of context or circumstances—since they can harm both people and the environment. Such attacks have serious consequences for nuclear safety and for regional and international peace and security,” Grossi added.

The IAEA is prepared to send experts to Iran to ensure that nuclear facilities are fully protected and can continue to be used for peaceful purposes.
