Identity of Victims from the Jabbarak Explosion Revealed: Number of Injured Increases

The confirmed casualties from the explosion in Jabbarak are elderly women. Gegharkunik Governor Karen Sargsyan stated in an interview with Mediahub.am: “The victims were residents of different houses. One of the women was born in 1937, the other in 1949, and the third in 1939.”

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Director of the Rescue Service, Major General Kamo Tsutsulyan, also informed that besides the 2 individuals being searched for under the rubble, they are also looking for a girl who may have been visiting. “The building consists of 44 apartments, 33 of which are actually inhabited. At this moment, we have 3 confirmed fatalities, and we received information that there is a girl who may have been visiting a nearby apartment,” Tsutsulyan stated.

Although they are aware of who is being sought, Tsutsulyan did not provide further details. The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs indicated that 12 residents of the building have contacted hospitals; 1 has been discharged, 8 are at the Jabbarak Medical Center, and 3 have been transferred to other hospitals.

He also mentioned that the first floor entrance of the building collapsed all the way up to the fourth floor. Governor Sargsyan noted that they are assessing the overall needs: “If necessary, we will be able to accommodate everyone.” Earlier, it was reported that there was a gas explosion followed by a collapse, resulting in the partial destruction of the second, third, and fourth-floor apartments, as well as neighboring units. The death toll has reached three.
