Tense Situation in Los Angeles Escalates

Ofelya

California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that the state will file a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Monday, aiming to deploy the National Guard in the state to combat the unrest.

“The President has worsened the situation. He is pouring gasoline on the fire by declaring that he will lead the National Guard. This is an illegal, immoral act that contradicts the Constitution,” the governor stated.

Newsom clarified that the lawsuit will challenge Trump’s decision to federalize the California National Guard without the state’s consent. The governor labeled Trump’s actions as “unconstitutional” and “illegal.”

National Guard troops have been deployed to Los Angeles to suppress the unrest. Earlier, the Trump administration announced plans to deploy 2,000 National Guard personnel in response to clashes involving demonstrators opposing raids on illegal immigrants. The Pentagon has not ruled out the use of the military.

Governor Newsom and the mayor of the state’s second-largest city have accused the White House of attempting to incite provocation and sow fear.

Protests have been ongoing in Los Angeles for several days, directed against law enforcement operations focused on immigrant checks. Following these operations, large demonstrations have erupted in various parts of the city, resulting in the arrest and detention of several dozen individuals.
