Poland Has a New President
Carol Nawrocki, a Euroskeptic, has won the presidential elections in Poland. This was announced early Monday morning by the country's Central Election Commission.
In the second round of the presidential elections, opposition candidate and nationalist Euroskeptic Carol Nawrocki received 50.89% of the votes, defeating the ruling pro-European candidate Rafal Trzaskowski, who gathered 49.11%.
The 42-year-old Nawrocki is a historian and has led the Polish National Memory Institute. In his electoral campaign, he promised to focus economic and social policies on Poles, rather than foreigners, including refugees from Ukraine.
Despite a number of scandals, including issues related to purchasing an apartment from an elderly citizen and admitting to involvement in organized brawls, Nawrocki managed to secure victory.
