Passenger Assaults, Swears at Taxi Driver and Damages Vehicle
On April 10, 2025, around 5:40 AM, a driver from the Yandex service, referred to as A.M. (full name withheld upon the citizen's request), received an order from one of the nightclubs on Teryan Street to drive to the community of Byureghavan in the Kotayk Province. The passenger was a woman. This has been reported by Hetq.
The driver recounted that when they reached the Yerevan-Sevan highway, the passenger began searching for something in her bag and then asked the driver if she had paid him money. After receiving a negative response, she called someone and declared that she had lost her wallet and needed to return to look for it. Noticing that the passenger had 3,000 drams in cash, the driver asked who would pay for the trip afterwards.
“I saw that the cash on hand wouldn't be enough; it was only 2,100 drams. If we returned and then went to Byureghavan again, she wouldn't pay. She said, ‘I’m telling you to drive.’ Then she became aggressive for no reason, pulling on various parts of the car. To maintain my composure, I parked my vehicle at a gas station on the Yerevan-Sevan highway and managed to get out of the car. After that, the woman began to hit and swear at me. She struck me with her umbrella and bag. I moved away from the vehicle to call the police. During this time, she kicked the car, breaking windows and license plates. In total, she caused me damages amounting to 1,000,000 drams,” said the driver.
Police who arrived at the scene checked the passenger's blood alcohol content and recorded that she was under the influence of alcohol. The justification for not initiating a case is based on amendments to the Criminal Code; under the new law, if the alleged crime is of medium severity and the identity of the perpetrator is known, there is no obligation to initiate criminal proceedings. The citizen must file a criminal complaint in court and resolve the issue judicially.
