Attacks on the Mother See Have Historical Roots, Says Tigran Abrahamyan
Armenian National Assembly member Tigran Abrahamyan writes: “The attacks on the Mother See have historical roots and have intensified over recent weeks. Initially, the spiritual leader of Azerbaijan announced plans to establish a so-called spiritual council in 'Western Azerbaijan,' followed by mass attacks against the Armenian Apostolic Church.
The reason is that the Mother See actively counters Azerbaijan's aggressive behavior, not only regarding the encroachments and destruction of Armenian spiritual heritage in Artsakh but, in a certain sense, has taken on the function of defending the collective rights of the Armenian people. It has made strong statements regarding Azerbaijan's territorial claims over Armenia and has indicated that the chapter on Artsakh is not closed.”
It is noteworthy that earlier today, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made critical remarks about the clergy on his Facebook page.
