White House on Sending Representative to Istanbul

We hope that Russia and Ukraine will participate in direct negotiations and discussions taking place in Istanbul next week. This was announced by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

“We believe that this meeting will take place. President Trump has urged both parties and encouraged them to sit down together and negotiate directly,” she said.

Trump has made it clear that he wants this conflict to be resolved at the negotiating table, rather than on the battlefield. He has reiterated this to both leaders, both publicly and in private conversations.
