The situation regarding the program is complex, Lavrov
The complex situation surrounding Iran's nuclear program continues to persist. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at an international meeting of high-level representatives coordinating security issues.
“Eight years ago, by collapsing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, specific circles in Israel, the USA, and Europe hoped to eliminate Tehran's legitimate civil nuclear developments, disregarding its rights under the non-proliferation treaty. Judging by the statements from the parties, there is hope for progress as a result of the latest round of negotiations, and that everything is moving in the right direction,” Lavrov said.
He noted that Moscow wishes success to these efforts, hoping that satisfactory results will be achieved for all parties involved, including, of course, Iran.
Lavrov also mentioned that Moscow is anxiously watching the accumulation of NATO troops along Russia's borders. The contact line with the North Atlantic Alliance has significantly expanded since the admission of former neutral Sweden and Finland.
The Russian Foreign Minister pointed out that the stability of the world order will largely depend on whether the West will manage to abandon its political agenda of imposing its will on other countries.
It should be noted that in 2015, Britain, Germany, China, Russia, the USA, France, and Iran signed a nuclear deal that involved the lifting of sanctions in exchange for limitations on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program. The USA withdrew from the agreement during Trump's previous presidential term in May 2018 and reinstated sanctions against Tehran's leadership. In response, Iran announced a phased reduction of its commitments under the agreement, specifically abandoning limits on nuclear research and the level of uranium enrichment.
