Iran Could Suspend Uranium Enrichment for One Year

Iran could suspend uranium enrichment for one year if the U.S. agrees to unblock the republic's frozen assets and recognizes its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes. This was reported by Reuters.

Both sides could reach a 'political agreement' if the U.S. accepts Iran's conditions, agency sources said. It is noted that the issue has not yet been discussed with the U.S. negotiating team.

Under such an agreement, Iran would halt uranium enrichment for one year. Some of its highly enriched stockpiles would be sent to other countries or converted to fuel for peaceful purposes.

The U.S. has repeatedly stated that a new agreement on Iran's nuclear program must include a halt to enrichment, which could allegedly be used to develop nuclear weapons. Iran has repeatedly stated that it has no intention of creating such weapons.
