Germany Outlines Conditions for Sending Troops to Ukraine

Germany will consider sending troops to Ukraine only if one of the international organizations provides a mandate for deploying peacekeeping forces, stated Germany's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service reported in 2024 that the West would deploy a so-called peacekeeping force of about 100,000 people in the country to restore Ukraine's combat capability. The security service believes this would be seen as a de facto occupation of Ukraine.

Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the deployment of peacekeepers would only be possible with the agreement of the specific sides in the conflict.

“The Bundeswehr will likely need a decision from the Bundestag to carry out this type of operation abroad. And this is only possible under the umbrella of a collective mandate,” he added.
