The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, during his visit to Lithuania, stated that Russia poses a danger to the security of all Europe. According to him, it is precisely to counter this threat that a German brigade is being deployed in the region. This was reported by lrt.lt.

“Russia's aggressive revisionism threatens not only the territorial integrity of Ukraine but also the overall security of Europe and the Euro-Atlantic area. Therefore, Germany and our allies have decided to strengthen NATO's eastern flank. For this purpose, we are deploying a full brigade in Lithuania in record time. All necessary conditions have been created for this,” said Merz.

He emphasized that the West's objective is clear: a ceasefire in Ukraine must be reached. “We will continue to exert pressure on Moscow. In recent weeks, the President of Ukraine has repeatedly proven to the world that Ukraine is not to blame for the stalemate in negotiations. In order for Russia to come to the negotiating table, the EU has adopted a new sanctions package, as you already know. If necessary, we are ready to move further to strengthen the pressure on Russia and support Ukraine even more actively. Russia, in its current form, is a threat to all of us. It is against this threat that we are defending ourselves, and that is why we are here today,” Merz said in Vilnius.
