Has Russia Handed Over Karabakh to Azerbaijan? The Facts Say Otherwise – Lavrov

It is not fair for some to claim that Russia has handed over Karabakh to Azerbaijan, as the facts suggest otherwise. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a speech at the Armenian-Russian University.

“We learned about this from the media,” Lavrov said, referring to the official recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in October 2022 during a meeting in Prague and based on the Alma-Ata Declaration.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had stated that demonizing the Alma-Ata Declaration is very dangerous, as both de jure and de facto Armenia and other post-Soviet countries gained independence partly through that declaration.
