Zahharova on the Anti-Russian Protests in Yerevan

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, addressed the recent anti-Russian protests in Yerevan, marked by posters with anti-Russian writings, during a press briefing at the request of a journalist. Zakharova hinted that she sees a U.S. influence in these events.

“Do you know how many people work at the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan? 2,000. Perhaps some of them still do not understand that they should focus on promoting Russian-American relations and not on deteriorating Armenian-Russian relations. Or maybe some are still waiting for the funds passed by USAID to run out,” she stated.

According to Zakharova, Russia has a large and extensive agenda for cooperation with Armenia, which, she claims, does not sit well with many representatives of the minority.

It is noteworthy that during Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's working visit to Armenia on May 20-21, detailed negotiations are planned with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, as well as discussions with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Vahagn Khachaturyan. The diplomat noted that the engagements aim to develop agreements reached at the highest level.
