Saryan Street to Become One-Way: New Changes in Yerevan Streets

In June, a major program is planned to expand bus lanes, which will affect the continuation of the Mashtots Avenue line towards the Isakov Avenue. Several traffic organizational changes are also scheduled for June. This was announced by the head of the transport department of the municipality, Vazgen Harutyunyan, during the Yerevan City Council meeting on May 20.

Regarding the dedicated bus lanes, the transport department head informed that a section of Moscow Street has already been equipped, allowing the bus to cross Moscow Street from Khanzhyan Street towards Abovyan Street.

The changes to traffic are significant and will affect nearly the entire Small Center, he said. Vazgen Harutyunyan also mentioned that one-way traffic is planned for Saryan Street, with the opposite direction being on Mashtots, which is why the left traffic lanes will be closed to allow for continuous straight traffic on Mashtots.

"We have a project that aims to generally halt traffic in several sections of the Small Center. The idea is to make the Small Center accessible and designed for pedestrians. This includes a section of Abovyan Street, specifically from Northern Avenue to Republic Square, and a similar section on Nalbandyan Street, where traffic will be prohibited, as well as part of Republic Square, which will be exclusively for pedestrians, with limited traffic," he stated, adding that in the Arabkir administrative district, a bus line is also planned to be established in one direction on Komitas Avenue.
